Shure SCL5
Shure is one of the manufacturers that are taking on other companies that produce high-quality earphones that are used for personal monitors. In order for personal monitor earphones to be effective, the earphones must have excellent sound quality and great sound isolation features so that professionals can concentrate on the track being played. With the success of the E series and the more recent SE series for both consumers and enthusiasts, Shure plans on tackling the professional crowd with the SCL models. The Shure SCL5CL Earphones represents the higher-end models of personal monitor systems and remains as an excellent choice for a professional that needs a heavy duty solution in taking care of their personal monitor needs.
Design and Comfort
The Shure SCL5CL Earphones is engineered to please the people that want to go out and show off a more heavy duty look where the internal components can be seen through the clear housing. The cable adapts to this transparent design as well so overall, the design doesn’t look that bad compared to the sleek SE earphones. In fact, the cable is much better than the SE earphones as the length measures 61 inches and does not rely on extenders that slightly affect the stability as a whole. The cable is also much more durable than other cables outside the SCL series which adds to the lifespan of the product significantly. Even the earpieces are built to last for a very long time.
The SCL5 offers a few extras like the Fit Kit which contains foam, soft flex, and triple flange sleeves that the earpieces can attach to for better comfort. Different sizes are included as well to ensure that they fit in the ear appropriately. This is highly important for reaching the true sound quality levels as advertised.
Other accessories that come with the Shure SCL5CL Earphones include a stereo adapter plug that converts the 2-inch to the 1/8-inch. A premium carrying case is also included to serve as an extra layer of protection against harmful elements when on the go. This carrying case also makes sure that the earphones are properly stored without tangles.
“Coming from the single drivers to these has been a real pleasant experience. As a performing musician, this is the only way to go. A stereo mix onstage is so preferable to a wedge blasting at you. The dual drivers really improved my mix in the lows and cleaned up the mids. An enormous improvement over the single drivers. Nice choice of ear pieces and a pretty comfortable fit overall. I recommend them highly. “ – P.Generous (USA)
Features
The Shure SCL5CL features a few technologies that users of the Shure SE models will be familiar with. This includes the integration of Dual Live Performance Drivers that is responsible for the clean sound especially if the tracks that are being played back are not compressed. It also delivers an unmatchable quality that only live performances can rival. It works by putting the two components of the Dual Live Performance Drivers together to form a clear sound that may have reveal some interesting vocals or sound effects that may not be previously known. This technology is best for people that want to rediscover old music or look for new high-quality tracks to play and monitor.
This technology is used with the Inline Crossover to separate the highs and lows and then balances the sound making sure that highs stay precise while the mids stay natural. It also ensures that any bass generated sounds deep.
The sound isolation features is of high quality as well and works better than the studio headphones that rely on noise cancellation. Isolation does what cancellation fails to do which involves direct blocking of the sound rather than circuitry to take the background noise head on.
Bottom Line
The Dual Live Performance Drivers that are embedded into the Shure SCL5CL Earphones really make the SCL5 shine. The Shure SE420 shares some similarities as it relies on dual performance drivers as well, but the SCL5 goes the extra mile by making the wire and earpieces very durable.
Actual User Reviews:
• “The sound is excellent. The build quality is heavy duty. The wiring is solid. The fit is tremendous. Due to the different style and size of earpieces, I was able to achieve a seal which allows the bass to come throught very well.
I believe that the earphone is designed to be for performance musicians who want to hear a clear separation of sound between instruments rather than a blended sound which is what most casual listeners would want. For a more blended sound with the fit that comes with the Shure earphone products, I would recommend a 530(three driver) or 420(two driver)earphone. The prices on Amazon and Amazon Marketplace are really quite competitive.
These earphones are well packaged with the right accessories to help you use them “on the move” and to achieve a good fit in the ear. They are very comfortable to wear and achieve isolation through passive exclusion of outside sounds. The cables do not seem too susceptible to vibration noise. This is a good thing.
Lastly, as with all Shure products, I believe that it is a well made product. I would always recommend using a headphone amplifier to enhance the sound and make the earphone perform to its best level.-L.Topper (USA)
