Sennheiser MX W1
Sennheiser has made huge contributions to the audio industry by providing clear sounded speaker systems along with a huge selection of headphones and earphones. Sennheiser has reached out to every possible market targeting disc jockeys, professional assistances, athletes, video gamers, online chatters, music professionals, music enthusiasts and audiophiles. Many of their latest designs impress even more, offering features like noise reduction and a comfortable fit while boasting a design that looks sleek and is comfortable to wear.
Now Sennheiser is taking on a newer market that doesn’t require any cables at all. These earphones all belong to the wireless category and the technology continues to improve with wireless solutions not sacrificing any audio quality at all. This is what the Sennheiser MX W1 Wireless Earphone aims to do and it doesn’t make any sacrifices in other features either.
Design and Comfort
Some of the wireless earphones available have to sacrifice a little bit in style so they are small enough to hang on to the ear. The Sennheiser pair of wireless earphones is quite small as well, but look like really hi-tech earphones when viewed as a pair. What is even more surprising is that the Sennheiser MX W1 includes a similar package that other wired earphones have. This includes a set of foam earpads for different comfort options.
One of the innovative features of the Sennheiser MX W1 is the way the earphones lock on to the ears so that they will never fall. The system that it uses is known as the Twist-to-Fit system. This system is laid out in the instructions so anyone can do it right after they purchased the package. For this special feature to be used by everyone, the package also includes three sets of Twist-to-Fit adapters with one small, medium, and large pair.
Because it is wireless, the package includes a transmitter with a 1/8-inch plug with stereo support. The earphones may be charged by using the docking station or it can be charged via USB or using the supplied multi-country power adaptor. The nice thing about using the docking station is the fact that it doesn’t rely on a power source until the three available charges are consumed. Three elastic transmitter attachment straps may also be found in the package which can be used to strap right on to an mp3 player. The transmitter itself is small to match the pair of earphones. Compared to other wireless earphones, the controls are quite limited with only on and off buttons to use as a remote.
“I have been looking for wireless ear buds for a very long time and I immediately purchased the Sennheiser MX W1 as soon as I found it, justifying that the price of convenience was worth the cost. When I received it I could have sworn the ray of light shone right on the box! Could this be the answer to my prayer? Anxiously, I opened the box and knew immediately that this was high quality stuff. I immediately charged it and after long awaited hours, it finally charged. – G.Mason (USA)
Features
Wireless earphones are not very common because they are often sold for much higher amounts compared to wired earphones. This puts Sennheiser in the lead when it comes to both design and features as it has many of the nice features and technologies present in wired models.
On the wireless side, the Sennheiser MX W1 Wireless Earphone uses a wireless transmission technology called KLEER. This transmits the music directly to the transmitter without problems. What makes the MX W1 unique is way the transmission is actually done. All transmitted audio is fully uncompressed for speed and quality while using up all of the possible bandwidth to correctly reproduce the sound so it sounds exactly like the tracks being listened to on traditional wired headphones. The transmitter can also be used to set up two stereo sites for a duration.
Bottom Line
The Sennheiser MX W1 Wireless Earphone is fully complete with just all the features to impress everyday listeners, audiophiles, and anyone else that need a high quality set of earphones that have no wires in the way. Other competing models may sound exceptional and cost a bit less, but the Sennheiser model keeps the sound uncompressed which is the best possible quality attainable. As long as the very heavy price tag costing about $500 isn’t overly expensive, this pair of earphones delivers all of its promises in design, style, and features. It is really the wireless feature that adds to the cost significantly. But don’t forget there are a number of useful accessories included in the package as well and most Sennheiser users should be very familiar with the things that are included.
Actual User Reviews:
• “These headphones sound fantastic! They produce a well balanced sound across a wide frequency. Bass, mid range and treble all sound excellent. I haven’t heard any distortion. Kleer definitely produces a crisp, clear sound and the headphones allow you to hear an incredible level of detail. I would have thought these were wired if I tested these blindfolded. Operation is simple. Activate the headphones, then activate the transmitter and you have sound!
There’s quite a bit of innovation in one package. The transmitter is very small. About half the size of a gum package. It comes with a rubber band to strap it to a MP3 player. If you are in a clear space, you can walk quite a distance away from the transmitter. I was able to get 40 feet away without the audio cutting out. If you walk around walls or corners, it may cut out but if you are directly across, above or below the transmitter, through a wall, it comes in perfectly clear.
Twist to fit works fairly nice and the headphones feel comfortable. You may have problems jostling them loose if you have any jarring movements like running, but seems to handle walking on a treadmill quite well.
The transmitter can last for 10 hours on a single charge, the manual says the headphones last for 3 hours but I have had them run for up to 5 hours. You can charge the headphones in the charging dock three times while on the go but charging the headphones alone can take around several hours, plus or minus, depending on how run down they are. Battery life and charge time is the only true downside aside from the early adopter price.
Pros: Sound amazing, remote charging, comfortable.
Cons: Battery life, cost.” – R.Mckenny (USA)
