Not many people need to buy headphones for their portable audio devices and mobile phones because the devices already come with headphones and the sound quality is just about right. At first glance, these earphones show distinctive looks that do not appear to perform better, but the difference can be really heard especially when bass tracks are played.

Design and Comfort

The Monster Lil Jamz In-ear Headphones are specially constructed to seal out the external noise while directing the music to the ears. As for the looks, the design is quite attractive in a black single-billet metal housing. This housing is not only black, but the hard chrome finish adds some enhanced durability while maintaining a gorgeous shine eliminating the need of polishing. The rugged strain relief aspect does a great job in protecting the cable making this one of the more heavy duty models that cost under $100. Although that may seem cheap, the solid finish makes them nearly indestructible while remaining lightweight.

Unlike the high-end earphones, the Monster Lil Jamz In-ear Headphones do not really offer much of a package. While there are no real problems with the earphones comfort-wise, there are no extra eartips included to suit other people. Fortunately, the eartips are still detachable making them extremely easy to clean. There are a few significant accessories included in the package like the 24K gold contacts which maximizes the signal transfer while avoiding the corrosion.

There is also a nifty cable management clip which can be used in case the headphones are too heavy. Using this clip should trim down some weight for a more comfortable listening experience.

Finally, an attractive compact protective super soft clip pouch is included to properly store the Lil Jamz safely for travel. The nice thing about this pouch is that it also manages the cable so it is easy to take out whenever there is a need to plug in to another device.

The Monster Lil Jamz In-ear Headphones fall short in studio quality simply because there is a lack of multiple drivers. Fortunately, the Lil’ Jamz tries to make the most out of the existing driver to deliver extended full range sound complete with noise isolation. There are some technologies fused in the housing for it to give some nice clean bass making it a great pair for listening to house and hip-hop tracks.

The cable that connects the earphones to the device also have some built-in technologies including some patented ones to make sure the audio is clear and accurate. The unique design was also made to eliminate any artificial vibrations and resonations which contribute to the nice bass.

The Monster Lil Jamz In-ear Headphones are best plugged into high-end audio devices like iPods or any mobile devices that have the compatible jack. It is also recommended to test the headphones with mp3s and other types of music that have very high bitrates or have little to no compression. With the right device settings, it may even be possible to listen to sounds that cannot normally be heard by low quality headphones.

Bottom Line

Considering all of the other alternatives out there, the Monster Lil Jamz In-ear Headphones stand out with an attractive $90 price tag. Some online stores may sell it for even lower costs. It would have been much better with some added accessories, but the low cost is wonderful considering the fact that both the design and sound quality are emphasized. Their lightweight profile makes them excellent earphones to carry around too. The punching deep bass is one of the surprising features out of the list since it can be difficult to find good earphones in that price range. A quick crash course of these headphones may very well lead to the older headphones never being used again.

• “I have had these only for 6 weeks, but I am very impressed. They are very well constructed, with great feeling materials. The buds are color coded for right/left, and have tangle free cords.

There only a few nits I have to pick: 1) Cord slide is metal, thin and seems to drag on the cord. Makes me feel like I will be to fray the cord. This can, and should be improved. 2) Plug, now this is personal preference, but I prefer my plugs to have a 90 degree angle when coming off my iPod Touch. When I hold the Touch wide screen style, the straight plugs stick out, and feel fragile. They tend to interfere with some of the Touch functions. This is not a fault of the Lil’ Jamz exclusive, but all staight plug ear buds.

Now on to the good stuff: these feel great, the metal body speaks quality, the smoke chrome finish is a great touch. Cord has great tactile feel, seems quite tangle free, is the correct length, and appears quite durable. Time will tell on that. The carry pouch is quite functional, carries nice in the pocket, and keep the phones looking good.

I am using these as everyday carry, and not been disappointed yet.
